2013 CNY Reunion @ Halia, Sime Darby Convention Center

What a fantastic gastronomic experience at Halia, Sime Darby Convention Center (SDCC) in February 2013!

This halal restaurant was selected to celebrate our family's Chinese New Year reunion dinner, simply because it was value for money and the menu for the International BBQ Buffer Dinner had superfluous choices and was absolutely tempting!

Since my beloved John and I have never been to SDCC (or Pusat Konvensyen Sime Darby) before, our elder son, David had to drive us there a few days ahead just to show us the direction lest we get lost on the appointed date.

We were the first to arrive, reaching SDCC about 5.15 pm, way ahead of the dinner time scheduled from 6pm onwards. Hence, we had lots of time to marvel at its impressive building and to enjoy the lovely lush and beautiful palms, trees and flowering bushes, etc. within its vast surroundings. Overlooking beyond is the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club with its immense greenery and undulating fairways.

The Halia Restaurant boasts of a nice ambiance, well-spaced dining area, friendly staff that are attentive and helpful without being intrusive.

Overall, our family of nine members, plus a relative enjoyed the wonderful array of dishes... we were spoilt for choice, food was good and tastefully yummy!

Total bill for 10 pax was RM380/=, a 52% discount with Groupon vouchers, without which would have cost us a hefty sum of RM790/=. Cool, huh! Eating smart is the way to go, right?

We left the premise about 10pm with our bellies super-full, contented and extremely happy that it was a value for money family get-together dinner, thoroughly enjoyed by all of us!

Marinated BBQ with assorted sauces/dips: roasted whole lamb, lamb shoulder, quail, chicken percik/in batter, grilled fish (stingray, tenggiri, selar, etc), squid, prawns, lobsters, beef and chicken satay, otak-otak and others

Buttered vegetables, mashed potatoes, fried rice/kway teow/meehoon, spaghetti carbonara, assorted garden salad/beans/meat, coleslaw, pickles, potato salad, cold meat cuts, fresh/smoked salmon, mussels, oysters, Japanese sushi/sashimi, etc.

Dessert included assorted fresh fruit platter, assorted Malay/Thai kuih, assorted cakes, tarts and cookies, ice-cream with condiments, green pea dessert, coffee, tea, cordial drinks, etc.
